Philip Bown BDS
Principal Dentist
GDC No. 63571
Philip qualified in 1988 from Glasgow University and joined Nith Place Dental Practice in 1998. He entered into the partnership in 2005, eventually taking over the practice and becoming the Principal Dentist in 2007.
Phil holds a certificate of cosmetic restorative dentistry and has worked with some of the top cosmetic dentists in the country. He has also been a Vocational Trainer helping to mentor and tutor young dentists of the future.
In addition to the above Philip has a keen interest in facial aesthetics, having extensive experience in providing anti-wrinkle and dermal filler treatments. He regularly attends courses and conferences to keep up to date with the latest advancements in the field.
Outside work Philip enjoys spending time with his family and coaches a local youth football club.
Trevessa Newton
Associate Dentist

Trevessa qualified in 1991 from the University of Birmingham and worked in a number of different dental practices in the Midlands before taking a break from dentistry for a few years whilst living in India and then studying Law. She was called to the Bar in 2006 but soon felt the pull of dentistry and so returned to the world of teeth.
She didn’t turn her back on law completely though and has been an Expert Witness for the Dental Defence Union for many years, providing independent dental reports for dental negligence cases and GDC Professional hearings.
She loves meeting both new patients and old, and improving smiles and oral health. She also enjoys Facial Aesthetics particularly Platelet Rich Plasma (‘PRP’) treatments as these can be tailored to suit an individual’s particular concerns and are simple, safe and effective.
Trevessa and her partner are delighted to move to Dumfries having had many amazing holidays in Scotland over the years. She loves the friendliness of the people and the stunning scenery and wants to make the most of the opportunities the area offers for kayaking, mountain biking and walking.
Hemant Yadav BDS
Associate Dentist
GDC No. 102519
Hemant qualified from Manipal University in 2000 and followed this with a Masters in Prosthodontics in 2003.
Hemant joined the practice in 2006 and quickly built up a loyal patient base after moving from London to settle in Dumfries.
Hemant has achieved a masters degree in implantology and has been providing implant treatment at Nith Place Dental Practice for 5 years he also accepts patient referrals from other dentists.
Emma Laurie
Clinical Manager/Oral Health educator
GDC No. 138494
Emma Laurie qualified in 1999 and has been with the practice since then.
Emma is our Oral Health Educator, qualifying in 2001, she specialises in providing oral health advice for our patients. Emma is also involved with ChildSmile, a national programme aimed at improving the oral health of children in Scotland.
In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, drawing and painting.
Hygienists
Our skilled team of dental hygienists are Allison Laurie, Fiona Templeton and Sandra Leaney. They each have over 20 years of experience and work in parallel with Philip and Hemant to provide you with professional cleaning and oral health care advice tailored to your individual requirements to help achieve and maintain excellent oral health.
Allison Laurie
Hygienist

Allison qualified as a Dental Hygienist at Leeds Dental Hospital in 1998 and starting working at the practice in 2001.
Allison has a very caring and calming manner and can help the most nervous of patients feel reassured.
Allison’s hobbies include playing the ukulele, playing tennis and reading.
Fiona Templeton
Hygienist
GDC No. 3373
Fiona qualified as a Dental Hygienist from Edinburgh in 1987. She has worked with us at Nith Place for 11 years, she is a very experienced and knowledgable hygienist and has many loyal patients amongst whom she is well known for her gentle yet thorough treatment.
Outside work she enjoys spending time with her family, walking her new puppy and socialising with friends.
Receptionists
Our friendly reception team of Liz Brown and Philippa Syrett are usually the first point of contact for our customers. Both have a great rapport with the patients. They can provide you with information about the practice and any of our services as well as arranging appointments and answering queries.

Liz has been with the practice since 2008. Her hobbies include walking, swimming and reading.

Philippa has been with the practice since 2011. In her spare time she enjoys walking and shopping.
Nurses
The Dental Nurses at the practice are vital in assisting the dentist and maintaining high standards in cross infection control and equipment maintenance. All of our nurses have completed the National Certificate in Dental Nursing, or are currently studying towards obtaining this qualification. Our team of nurses are Emma Laurie, Wendy Notman, Vicky McLean and Chris Wilson.
Wendy Notman

Wendy started working with the practice in 1996. In 2016 she became involved with the ChildSmile programme. Wendy enjoys going to the cinema with her kids and travelling.
