Facial Aesthetics
As we get older, sometimes nature needs a helping hand and that’s where non-surgical facial treatments can work wonders.
Facial rejuvenation techniques can soften wrinkles, restore and replace volume and contour the facial features.
Why receive this treatment from a dentist?
The benefit of having facial aesthetic treatment from a dentist is that they have a thorough knowledge and understanding of facial anatomy. Dentists have vast experience in delivering this delicate work in a gentle and precise manner.
Anti-wrinkle Treatments
Botox treatment for wrinkles is the most commonly requested aesthetic medical procedure worldwide. Botox is the trade name of a medicine-a purified protein- Botulinum Toxin Type A, which is also available as Bocouture and Azzalure in the UK.
Wrinkles on the upper part of the face, around the eyes, nose and on the forehead are often of concern as they can give the impression of an aged appearance. They can be treated alone but more commonly they are addressed as part of a whole face rejuvenation programme.

DO BOTULINUM TOXIN INJECTIONS REALLY WORK?
Absolutely! Botulinum toxin is a medicine that temporarily blocks the signals from nerve endings that tell the muscles to move. The result is a reduction in movement of the muscles. Lines and wrinkles on the face are caused by years of repetitive contraction of these muscles that etches a line into the skin. When these muscles are relaxed the lines very quickly disappear.
WILL I LOOK “FAKE” OR “FROZEN”?
Only if you want to! Many people today opt for a natural, more refreshed look rather than a frozen look. This requires very careful dosing in very specific areas to reduce the signs of ageing without looking like you have had a treatment.
DO THE INJECTIONS HURT?
Most people will feel something when the treatment is being performed, however the procedure is described as painless by most people. We ask all our patients to provide a treatment pain score at Nith Place and the usual score for this treatment is either 1 or 2 out of 10. On this scale, 1 = no pain at all and 10 = the worst pain imaginable. For particularly nervous patients a numbing cream may be applied.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
Botulinum toxin injections have been used safely for over 30 years for cosmetic and medical uses. In cosmetic doses, serious side effects are incredibly rare. Less serious side effects are related to the treatment affecting the wrong muscles and can result in a drooping of the eyebrow or eyelid. These side effects are uncommon and less likely to happen with an experienced practitioner. You may experience some temporary bruising or swelling at the injection site as with all injections.
HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
Most people will get about 4 months of a result from a single treatment. There is some variation between 2 months and 6 months. Some evidence suggests that with regular treatments, the effects may last longer.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
The cost of treatment will vary depending on the number of areas to be treated and the complexity of the treatment. At Nith Place, Botulinum Toxin injections start from £150 for a single area.
CAN BOTOX INJECTIONS BE USED TO TREAT EXCESSIVE SWEATING?
Excessive sweating (also known as Hyperhidrosis) can be treated using Botox injections into the area effected. This effectively switches off the sweat glands for up to 9 months and is usually extremely effective.
Dermal Fillers
Modern dermal filler treatments are so much more than just lip fillers. Whilst we can use the fillers to restore or recreate a natural-looking lip and mouth, the dermal fillers can also be used to replace lost volume and fat in the face. Nowadays, we use dermal fillers in the cheeks, the temples, around the eyes and in the jowl and jawline areas, as well as in the lips to help lift the facial structure and create a more youthful and refreshed appearance.
Dermal fillers are the second most commonly requested aesthetic medical procedure worldwide next to wrinkle relaxing injections. They are often used in combination with “non-surgical face lift” procedures, as well as stand alone treatments to treat specific areas of concern, such as lip fullness, nasolabial lines.
As part of a holistic facial rejuvenation treatment plan, dermal fillers are used in expert hands can restore volume and contour to an ageing face.

HOW LONG DO DERMAL FILLERS LAST?
There are a number of different dermal fillers that can last from a few months to a few years, depending on what product is used and for what indication.
DO THE INJECTIONS HURT?
Some areas can be more sensitive than others. The lips and area around the mouth is often the most sensitive, so at Nith Place we use a dental anaesthetic to completely numb the area, making the procedures painless. Areas like the cheek and temples are actually not typically painful at all. However, a numbing cream can be used if required.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
As with all medical treatments, there can be side effects. In expert hands dermal fillers are a safe and effective method of rejuvenating your appearance, but you need to be aware of all the potential risks before you proceed with a treatment. Common side effects include bruising and swelling. Other rarer side effects are possible but unlikely.
Your practitioner will explain all the potential side effects to you at your consultation and before you make a decision about your treatment.
HOW MUCH DOES TREATMENT COST?
The cost of dermal fillers will vary depending on the complexity of the treatment and the type of dermal filler used. Treatments like plumping to the mouth lines and lip enhancement can cost from as little as £250.
More complex facial rejuvenation treatments are typically costed on consultation.
